Hi, my name is
Emilia Yoffie.
I build unique & accessible digital experiences.
I’m a full-stack software engineer passionate about the growth mindset, collaboration, and solving complex problems. Currently, I’m part of the CS Engineering team at Codesmith , where I engineer & improve major features of the legacy enterprise codebase, in addition to mentoring junior developers.
About Me
Hello! My name is Emilia and I enjoy building things that make a difference. My interest in software engineering started back in 2008 when I learned to build custom MySpace themes using HTML & CSS. From there, however, much of my early professional career was in agriculture. Here's a bit of my story:
Throughout college, I worked on organic vegetable farms, where I fell in love with farming. After graduating with a Bachelor of Technology in Plant Science in 2017, I worked at Cornell University conducting industrial hemp research. Before long, I went on to start several small businesses and managed industrial hemp and CBD oil production throughout NY & PA.
During this time, I was able to grow my technical, analytical, and leadership skills, and by the time I started to transition to software engineering in 2020, I had nearly six years of management experience under my belt. My career pivot into the tech industry felt very natural - turns out farming and software engineering are a lot alike: they're both about collaborating to solve problems and growing things organically!
Fast-forward to today, and I’ve had the pleasure of building out cool new features in several enterprise codebases & working on a number of open-source products, as well as the privilege of mentoring junior developers, giving public technical workshops and Lunch & Learns (KTs), and contributing to web development courses for aspiring engineers.
Here are a few technologies I’ve been working with recently:
- JavaScript/TypeScript
- HTML/CSS
- Node.js/Express
- Deno
- React
- Redux
- Cypress
- Jest
- Docker
- GitHub Actions
- SQL/NoSQL
- OAuth 2.0

Where I’ve Worked
Software Engineer & Consultant @ CS Engineering
June 2022 - Present
- Maintained ed tech learning platform with 200k+ users, internal tooling, and public site, employing Docker containers to facilitate consistent development environments, streamline workflows, and enhance code integration and deployment processes
- Overhauled events management dashboard in React with targeted UI improvements, such as intuitive navigation and responsive design, to create a more fluid experience for end users to manage remote and in-person events
- Implemented test-driven development with Jest for testing Express controllers in the CI/CD pipeline, enhancing code quality by an estimated 2.5 - 4.2 times and achieving 80% block coverage, ensuring intended functionality
- Carried out comprehensive knowledge transfers through Lunch & Learn sessions, focusing on the shift-left mentality of developing holistic testing suites, increasing quality engineering and deployment confidence
- Constructed JavaScript challenges for Frontend Masters’ UI Hard Parts online course, guiding participants in gaining a comprehensive understanding of UI development principles such as DOM manipulation, data binding, the virtual DOM, and hooks.
- Mentored teams of junior engineers through the complete lifecycle of full-stack open-source products, facilitating use of Agile/Scrum methodology to guarantee proper workflow, team compatibility, and effective product launch
